In Sep. 2014, Norwegian telecom giant Telenor launched its mobile-only bank in Serbia. Telenor banka had acquired over 180000 customers by the summer of 2016 (vs. biggest traditional bank which had 500000 mobile users).
Last year, Telefónica launched a mobile bank account paying interest in megabytes in Germany in partnership with Fidor Bank, while Lebara announced the launch of financial services starting with its 5M+ customers, with the ambition to target the nearly 1B strong migrant community globally.
On our panel discussion “The Telecoms’ Dilemma- to B(ank) or not to B(ank)?” at FinTech meets Telecom, we will hear from Martin Navratil (Telenor), Clemens Grond (Telefonica) and Selma Ribica (Lebara Financial Services) on their achievements, learnings and ambitions.
On the panel “PSD2, FinTechs, Telecoms, APIs…- What Can European Banks Pull Off?” we will hear the banks’ perspective – e.g. from MoneYou, the mobile banking arm of ABN Amro.
